Vicente Castillo, or as I call him, Gamps (my name for grandfather), was a Vietnam Veteran, soldier’s Medal recipient, and a man of God. My grandfather was, in his own experience, a bit of a scoundrel during his younger years and later found his salvation through God. It was through finding his relationship with God that he found his purpose to share the wisdom of scripture in hopes that he could guide others to the salvation that served him.

This was a very challenging conversation for me. On 1 hand, I was dealing with my grandfather’s mortality as it could have been my last face-to-face conversation with him. On another hand, I was in my head wanting to make sure I asked good questions and that he also had the experience of being FULLY HEARD. He has been struggling with Parkinson’s & Alzheimer’s for some time so it is not uncommon for him to be winded in conversation or get stuck on words. All of that spoken, it was one of the most important conversations I’ve had in my life and I hope that anyone who listens to it hears something for themselves that they can apply to their own life.

In this podcast we discussed:

  • His journey from being a military veteran to a missionary
  • What is salvation and WHY does it matter?
  • How he has been able to fully accept his mortality
  • His biggest regrets and most prideful moments in life

Much love and peace be with you
